How To Attract and Retain New Employees

welcome

Everyone complains about how difficult it is to attract and retain new employees. But if you know what makes new hires happy, then you can draw them into your company with ease. This article will discuss ways companies can attract and retain new hires.

First Step: Be Happy, Smile and Look Friendly

New employees start at the bottom of the food chain and work their way up. They’re usually new graduates who don’t yet have many skills or experience. So they need your help and support. To help them adjust and feel comfortable, make sure you smile and make eye contact whenever you talk to them: it helps build rapport. It also shows them they’re not alone – that there is a human being standing right in front of them; not an office robot whose job quota hasn’t been completed or electronic spreadsheet never finished inputting data into that month.

The next step is to learn about your new employees, such as what they like and dislike. There are usually at least a few days for them to settle in and get acquainted with the company culture. This is also an opportunity for you to help them feel comfortable by asking questions about what they like and how they think they can fit into the company.

Two: Help Them Attain Their Goals

New hires usually have aspirations of becoming something other than just a standard employee. They want to reach for higher ground, be promoted or even starting their own business. And that is the root of all new employees’ problems. They can’t figure out how to change their position within the company to achieve their dreams.

So you need to make it easier for them to realize they can become something greater than merely an employee. You need to communicate your company’s perceptions on the future, and make it appear possible for new hires to achieve their goals.

To do this, you need a vision of what your company wants or expects new hires to accomplish, which you should sit down and write up only after the new hires have started working at your company. Don’t give them any ideas or guidance until they’ve proven themselves.

The next step is to let them know how they can succeed at their goals. For example, if the company expects new hires to become managers, then you might want to conduct interviews with potential candidates. During these interviews, ask the candidates what are the major issues that are stopping them from achieving what they want in your company. The answers will provide you with data on what your new hires think of your company’s vision. Thereafter, you’ll be able to share this information with all new employees in order for them to better serve customers and improve their work orientation.

Three: Show Them Your Perspective on Things

You need to make sure every new hire is aware of everything that happens in the company. Consider all decisions you make, starting from the top-level executive decision-making process to the daily outflow of information that happen in your company. You should also let them know what problems you’re facing and how they can be helpful to solve them. For example, letting them know about problems with your manufacturing plant might help new hires establish a connection between their work and the work they are doing to improve your production. Also, letting them know what’s good about their current job might encourage them to think positively about their future at your company.

When you do this, new hires will be excited about their work and will help you solve problems you encountered.

Four: Show Them How They Can Be Successful in Their Work Flow

To make sure new hires are more productive, they need to feel the amount of work they are doing is relevant to their job. If you let new hires know that the company has an action plan for them, then they will be more motivated to work harder. This plan can include training for technical skills your new hires need in their work, additional duties that might allow them to become more proficient at what they’re doing, or even ways your company needs their help in order to make it happen.

Also, keep in mind the routine your new hires have. If the work is not familiar to them, then they might not be able to achieve their full potential. So you need to involve new hires in the monthly meetings of various departments and get them involved in your company’s projects. This will help them feel more connected with what they’re doing and build their confidence.

Five: Help Them Maintain a Positive Attitude

The best way for new hires to attain a positive attitude is through encouragement from you, your management team and other co-workers. Be a mentor to them and show how you did it when you started working at your company. Talk about how much you’ve grown both professionally and personally since then.

This is another way to build their confidence and make them feel accepted and valued by your company. By letting them know you consider them as valuable members of the team, you’ll encourage them to work hard to excel at what they’re doing. This will also make it easier for new hires to see the company as a place that is friendly and attractive.

Six: Encourage Them in Their Work Workplace

You need to let new hires know your company isn’t perfect, which is something they might not be able to tell at first. It’s better for new hires if they realize if not every aspect of the company is perfect, then most of it is good enough to keep your business relevant.

Make them aware of this by letting them know that no company is perfect, and that there are always problems. That way, new hires can understand their work environment is not a fantasy land. If they learn to accept the reality of the workplace, they might shift their attitude from expecting an ideal workplace to one that is productive and friendly.

There’s a lot you can do to retain new hires after hiring them, but you must consider what they want for themselves as well as your company’s future before you take those steps. This way, new hires will stay with your company longer.

By staying on top of new hires, you can keep the best of both worlds alive. They will be productive and loyal employees that also see your company as future-proof based on your company’s plans.
